News August 2012

Windermere was calm and the weather warm as Peter took a group of practised paddlers
through a variety of training drills and exercises.

Peter has also been busy training helms with the Wigan Paddlers for Life group.

Among the training helms is Richard from the Manchester Paddlers for Life group who came to Windermere to sign off his training by going through some helming exercises with Peter and our crew of willing paddlers.

He managed the Windermere conditions well as paddlers enjoyed race starts and showed their skills.

Another helm has finished training.

A full boat of paddlers took Artemis Phyllis around Low Wood Bay and down towards Broc
khole

as Don from Wigan Water Dragons visited Paddlers for Life, Windermere, to complete his helm training.
A crew of finely honed paddlers helped him complete his helm training successfully as he
completed a series of exercises and manouvers before the rain came in.

A message from Dr. Don McKenzie to Paddlers for Life

Dr. Don McKenzie responded to an email from Louisa and Sue thanking him for his contribution to the conference in London during the Flotilla weekend.

"It was a real pleasure to paddle down the Thames with you; that was definitely the highlight of my paddling career.
Thank you for the opportunity to do that and for all the help and assistance that Paddlers for Life provided.
At some point I hope to do more of a scientific presentation and review some of the findings that we have from other studies that are ongoing.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to participate in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Kind regards,

Don"

On a day that started with beautiful calm water and warm sunshine then ended with a torrential shower
Aly completed her helm training with style.
Well Done Aly!
