News, January 2012

Paddlers for Life expect the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant to be a highlight of 2012.
We will share the experience with other breast cancer survivor crews.

Another successful coffee morning at Silverdale raised funds for Paddlers for Life in January.

Lots of hard work from Mags and many other members and helpers made the third Paddlers for Life Coffee Morning a great success. All the stalls, clothes, cakes, books and Bric-a-brac did great trade. The raffle and tombola were equally busy.
The fantastic sum of £943:35p was raised.

What? No Dragon Boat paddlers!
This is what Windermere sometimes looks like in January when we are not there.

Aly, Tony and Sparky were the lone representatives of Paddlers for Life to ascend Lingmoor Fell in Langdale.

See what a great view we all missed and the weather was clearly better than expected from the forecast.
Still Sparky had a good day judging from her story. (As told by Aly)

Manchester Paddlers for Life group moves a step closer as Ann, Sue, Peter, Louisa, Paul and Maggie visit Debdale Park.

They had a warm welcome from the manager and toured the excellent facilities.

There is a secure place to store a full size boat close to the water with a straightforward launch. The centre facilities are good with showers, changing areas and refreshment facilities.

They were able to discuss safety with the centre manager with Paul reassuring staff about paddler's expertise and professionalism.

Ann hopes to get things moving quickly. She has already updated prospective members at a group meeting and there is a lot of interest from health professionals and local Manchester hospitals such as Christies.

Arnside to the fairy Steps, January 2012

A group of paddlers enjoyed a six mile walk across Salt Marsh, (very wet) pasture and Limestone Woodland and in the process negotiated the narrow limestone fissure that is the Fairy Steps in spite of the 'moist' conditions.
