News July 2012

In solidarity with the London Olympics Lucy carried the 'Olympic Torch' over Windermere.

As the London Olympics get into their stride Aly and John took turns helming Lucy as Tony nominated himself torchbearer whilst drumming.
That left June, Lynn, Steph, Nick, Bill, Eunice, Sue P-J, Janet, Rowena and Chris to paddle through Olympic themed time trials and other exercises ranging across Windermere from Wateredge to White Cross Bay in a range of weather conditions.

Some Paddler
s for Life members have had a busy weekend.
Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd. July.

A few members had a hectic Saturday at Upfront Gallery on the next stage of the Dragon Heads.

They worked on finishing and painting the heads and also managed to make and decorate bodies for three out of four dragons.

One visited Low Wood Bay today!

Meanwhile on Sunday Peter managed the choppy conditions with his usual style and panache.
Paddlers had a couple of challenging and exciting sessions with Peter trying out a few quick turning manouvers requiring paddlers to paddle at speed, stop the boat, assist the turn by drawing and then resume paddling.

Paddlers finished off with the rear paddlers steering the boat back to the jetty as if there was no helm simulating a lost helm or steering arm.
Lots of excitement in challenging conditions and wetter than usual paddlers!

Silverdale WI visit to try their hand at paddling. 15th. June, 2012

Some members of Silverdale WI visited this afternoon to experience Dragon Boat paddling.
The weather forecast predicted windy conditions and Peter was keeping his eye on the wind as regular paddlers accompanied the visitors in rather choppy waters.

Artemis Diana has moved to Manchester. July 2012
Her first outing was for Paddlers for Life, Manchester 'Taster Day'
Brilliant work Ann and Diet!
Your visitors had a great paddle and came away from their first experience looking very enthusiastic.

Newly formed Paddlers for Life, Manchester made the most of having Artemis Diana in her new home.
Ann and Diet organised a 'Taster Day' for prospective members to come and try Dragon Boat paddling.

After all the recent rain Debdale Outdoor Centre was bathed in sunshine as a good number of breast cancer survivors and health professionals came to see the venue and try their hand at paddling.
There were many regular paddlers from Windermere on hand to join in the fun and help introduce the visitors to the joys of being part of a Paddlers for Life paddling group.
Tony helmed Artemis Diana three times with a full crew of new and experienced paddlers and Manchester PfL supporters.
Then Artemis Diana was settled into her new home looking forward to more paddling sessions.

'Au revoir' Artemis Diana.

Today paddlers took Artemis Diana on a final tour of Windermere.
Soon she moves to her new home with Paddlers for Life Manchester at Debdale Park.
Paddlers expressed their pleasure to think that she will provide the same wonderful
experiences of dragon boat paddling in her new home for Paddlers for Life Manchester
to match our memories of paddling her on Windermere and places beyond.
