Paddlers for Life Windermere are tantalisingly close to the team's return to paddling our dragon boats and outrigger canoe. The strong wind gusts stopped us from paddling today but the dragon boats, V6 outrigger and support boat are ready to go and everyone has refreshed training for our paddling day routines. We will soon be on the water again. ... See MoreSee Less

A great turnout of paddlers on a gorgeous Windermere day to make sure our dragon boats, V6 outrigger, pontoon and equipment are all ready for our season of paddling that starts on Sunday with our 'All Hands on Deck' day to familiarise everyone with boat preparation and safety for a typical paddling day. What wonderful organisation and skills members of Paddlers for Life Windermere bring to make sure our activities run smoothly and efficiently. ... See MoreSee Less

Some members of Paddlers for Life Windermere went to Hollingworth Lake Country Park near Littleborough (Rochdale) for some outreach work. Their watersports centre has a bell boat which has a similar paddling style to a dragon boat and it is very stable as it is twin hulled.
The hope is to encourage the development of breast cancer survivor paddling at the venue. Anyone interested in developing a breast cancer team would be able to use the bell boat to promote interest and give experience before committing to raising funds for a dragon boat. ... See MoreSee Less

Many thanks to Dawn at Panda Paramedic for a wonderful First Aid training session. Paddlers for Life Windermere wanted training best suited to our water based dragon boat paddling activities for breast cancer survivors and this training was spot on.
We covered 'cold water shock' and hypothermia and then some excellent practical training on CPR, use of defribilators and adrenaline injectors pens for anaphylaxis. We also covered choking and practical techniques to clear blocked airways.
The opportunity to practice procedures and get experience based clarification through questions was really helpful. Dawn's confidence building, calm and friendly approach meant that members came away feeling completely reassured that we had the skills to intervene and support someone who might need our help.
This was another step on the way to prepare for our new paddling season that starts in April. ... See MoreSee Less

Paddlers for Life Windermere would like to send our best wishes to all paddlers across the world as well as all our friends and supporters.
We have had a great season at regattas, fund raisers, paddling with other teams and our own special events. Our regular paddling sessions have sometimes been challenged by high winds or heavy rain making lake levels high but we love what we do. Thanks to everyone who make sure our activities happen.
Enjoy your seasonal celebrations and we wish you peace, good health and happiness for 2026. ... See MoreSee Less
