Sue Cogley, a founder member of Paddlers for Life breast cancer survivor dragon boat team.
This was the day, amongst a crowded and over-flowing room of family and friends, Paddlers for Life members and supporters said our ‘Goodbye’ to Sue.
Her guiding hand was very apparent in Sue’s ‘Celebration of Life’ and it was easy to smile at the narrative she had helped compose and bring to mind the many happy memories of Sue that her words conjured into our thoughts. The celebration was very much about the Sue we know and love.
Sue loved her family but what was also clear was how much she loved the life experiences and friendships her extended dragon boat paddling ‘family’ of Paddlers for Life brought to her along with extended links to people across the world.
At such a sad moment even with our sense of loss, it was wonderful to come away with a feeling of such positivity. This warm feeling arose from acknowledgement of a good life lived so beautifully, purposefully and with love.
Thank you Sue and “Aloha” it was indeed joyful sharing life.
Along with Louisa, Sandra, Eve, Christine and others who held the same vision, they found funding for the boats and equipment and our beautiful location to paddle in.
Sue and her family have been at the centre of Paddlers for Life activities over the eleven year life of the team. Sue’s vision, drive, humour, warmth and organisational skills have ensured the team members have enjoyed a huge range of experiences which have improved the health, lives and well-being of many cancer survivor members and supporters.
What wonderful times we have all had thanks to Sue and the many members who have joined in supporting the team’s activities. We are all lucky to have made a friend of Sue and will hold her and her family closely in our hearts with many fond and happy memories of the time we have shared.
Got something to say?
