Solstice Paddle.

It has become a tradition that we do a long paddle the 10.5 mile length of Windermere around the summer solstice.

Initially, in 2010 and 2011, we participated in an event organised by ‘Windermere Canoe and Kayak’ for any human powered craft. (See here). We paddled the length of Windermere and towed the dragon boats back.

More recently we have paddled to the YMCA or Tower Wood for an overnight stay and then paddled the return leg the following day. One such event supported a fundraiser for paediatric services, (here)

Last year we paddled to a community event at NT Fell Foot for All to raise the profile of our team and planned to do the same this year but the weather demons stopped us with strong winds and thunderstorms forecast for our return paddle.

Instead with did a seven mile paddle to Bowness and back visiting the Steamboat Museum cafe for refreshments.

Although we were not able to provide a paddling experience at the Fell Foot event we still had a presence there with members providing information at a publicity stall.

Thank you to the trustees for organising this event and the members who helped to make it such a success.
