Our team helps with the 5 do 5 Windermere challenge.

A fund raising challenge remembering a special friend.

Lisa, Julie, Julie, Lynn, and Sarah have set themselves 5 challenges across and around Windermere which will include land and water based activities.
It is in memory of a dear friend Amanda Wilson and aims to raise money for Blackwell Sailing, CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria and Paddlers for Life.
They will start at Low Wray and will be running, dragon boat paddling, sailing, swimming and walking around Amanda’s beloved Windermere with the aim of raising funds and awareness for these three special charities.

We welcomed them at Low Wood Bay after they had run there from Low Wray. In beautiful conditions they joined us on our two dragon boats to paddle about four miles to the Royal Windermere Yacht Club at Bowness -on-Windermere. They then continued there next three challenges to complete their fundraiser.

So two dragon boats left Low Wood with our special guests paddling with us. Our helms entertained us along the way and we tried various energy preserving strategies along the journey to help paddlers retain their stamina for the four mile paddle. At Bowness-on-Windermere we met more fellow paddlers to join us for our return to Low Wood.

Sarah tells us about their special friend Amanda and why they have set themselves this challenge.

It was a great experience for the team as some newer members had not paddled a longer distance event. This was helped by a friendly team atmosphere, calm waters and warm, sunny conditions.

Two crews and our special guest paddlers who completed the paddle.

Peter took over the helming of one of the dragon boats and we were joined by more members for the four mile paddle back to Low Wood with 8.22 miles paddled altogether.
