Our Hawaiian challenge.

Are you ready for our Hawaiian challenge?

Get ready for 1st. February

Imagine you are in Hawaii.

Hawaii is a beautiful place which Sue loved. She was one of our founder members and a driving force to establish our breast cancer dragon boat team on Windermere in 2008.

It was her dream to have an outrigger canoe on Windermere having paddled with breast cancer survivors in Hawaii who use outrigger canoes instead of dragon boats.

Paddlers for Life Windermere have been fortunate to acquire an outrigger canoe for six paddlers as part of a scheme to promote the activity in the UK.

We need to collect the canoe from London to bring it to its new home on Windermere. We need to equip the the boat with paddles, buoyancy aids and other safety equipment such as throw ropes, bailers and maybe a radio. We want to personalise it with our charity livery and information so it can sit in equal beauty with our dragon boats.

To raise the £2500 to do this we are doing a virtual paddle to cover the distance of 10,719 miles (17,251 km) from Hawaii to Low Wood Bay at Ambleside.

People will contribute ‘human powered’ miles from indoor or outdoor exercise to make up the distance.

Our challenge starts on the 1st. February. Look out on Facebook or our website for links to our Crowdfunder page when it goes live.

In the meantime we gather in Hawaii. We have the island behind us and the 8000 km of the North Pacific ahead of us to reach the Panama Canal.

Maybe we will see orcas and sharks or even sea turtles. Start preparing for the challenge physically and mentally.

Sue’s love of paddling and her smiles will never be forgotten and she will always be “in our boat” encouraging us along the way.
Cannot think of a more fitting way to honour her during February and in remembrance of her energy, love and laughter she would be so proud of you Jane and Peter and PFL. So let’s lift our spirits and paddles high, dig deep, go strong and long and we will achieve this together in true PFL style.
